Discovery of HMS Endeavor Wreck confirmed

By 2016, the volunteers of Rimap, who operated with subsidies and private donations, had found 10 out of 13 wrecks, almost exactly where historical charts said they should be. And the search had received a boost of the 1998 discovery of a 200-year paper path that connects the troop transport Mr. Sandwich to his former life as HMS Adventure.

One candidate was found only 500 meters from the coast of Rhode Island (designated RI 2394), 14 meters below the surface and buried in almost 250 years of sediment and sludge. Rimap's team concluded in 2018 that this is probably the wreck of the AdventureAlthough the researchers emphasized that they had to collect more evidence to support their conclusions. That's because only about 15 percent of the ship survived. All parts of the hull that were not quickly buried by sludge have long been demolished in the water.

By 2022, the Anmn felt self -confident enough in his own research to keep that controversial press conference that announced the discovery against Rimap's objections. But the evidence is now strong enough for Rimap to come to the same conclusion. “In 1999 and again in 2019, Rimap and Anmm corresponded to a series of criteria that, if satisfied, make the identification of RI 2394 possible Lord Sandwich, “ The authors wrote in the introduction of the report. “Based on the agreed predominance of evidence, sufficient of these criteria has now been paid … to positively identify RI 2394 as the remains of Lord Sandwich, Used to be the hm bark from James Cook Adventure.

The Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission and the AMMM are now working together to ensure that the wreck site is protected in the future.
