Mercer Island police have identified two suspects involved in a hate crime at Islander Middle School, according to an update from the department.
On January 1, two individuals entered the school campus and defaced the exterior of the building with anti-Semitic and racist symbols and phrases.
Authorities are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Just hours after the initial release of the suspects' photos, Mercer Island police say tips from the public led to their identification.
“Detectives will continue to work on this case and updates will be provided as they become available. Thank you to our community for assisting with this investigation,” the updated release said.
Police have released descriptions of both suspects.
The first person wore camouflage pants, a black balaclava covering his nose and mouth, and a “Paradise Varsity Bomber Jacket” manufactured by PacSun.
The second suspect was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweater and dark-colored sweatpants. He also had a red face mask or bandana covering his nose and mouth.
Surveillance photos were also taken of both suspects without facial coverings.
