Memorial Day Weekend is here, and although the holiday is all about honoring those who have lost their lives that serve this country, many use this weekend as a time to take the first summer trip. According to AAA, more than 45 million Americans will travel during the holiday weekend, which is approximately 1.4 million more compared to 2024.
Both Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have reached a big first before Memorial Day. Both airlines launched their very first flights to the Mediterranean Island of Sicily this week, making it much more convenient for us passengers to make a trip to the Italian area.
United started his new direct service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Palermo Airport on 21 May. The flight schedule gives travelers the chance to take the route three times a week on Boeing 767-400 aircraft until 24 September. Also on 21 May Delta launched his first flight between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, on the Eastern Sicily, in the field of the Eastern. Boeing 767-300 aircraft until 24 October.
Although both routes are directly to Sicily, the biggest difference that they travel to two separate airports at different ends of the island is. Another difference is that United's Services uses a Boeing 767-400 aircraft, while Deltas employ a Boeing 767-300.
“Catania will be the fifth Italian city that is served by Delta from the US, together with Rome, Milan, Venice and Naples,” said Matteo Curcio, senior vice president of Delta for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India in a statement. “Sicily is a very popular destination and many Italian Americans have strong ties with this beautiful Italian region.”
Curcio added: “We are convinced that our service will benefit the economy of the region with regard to incoming tourism, and offering great connectivity with the US for Sicilians.”
