WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Canada “ceases to exist” if it was not for the United States – comments that only vote a few days before the Canadians came to vote in an election dominated by Trump's comments about the economy and the sovereignty of the country.
Trump recovered in the Canada election during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office and said that Canada “would cease to exist as a country” if the US stopped buying its goods.
“I have to be honest, as a state it works great,” said Trump, who previously threatened to make the country the 51st state by economic coercion.
Trump repeated his claim that the US need nothing from Canada – including cars and oil.
“We don't really want Canada cars to make us to say it. We want to make our own cars,” Trump said.
In recent weeks, Trump has called back his conversation about Canada, which became the 51st state. He stopped it after a phone call with new Prime Minister Mark Carney last month.
Trump also proposed on Wednesday that he could increase the import load on cars from Canada. Trump has a rate of 25% on cars, although there are some exemptions with regard to the American agreement between trade in the United States-Mexico-Canada and car manufacturers ask for other policy changes to minimize the tariff burden. Trump has separate rates of 25% on Canadian goods – apparently to tackle drug smuggling in the US
“I really don't want cars from Canada,” said Trump. “So if I set rates in Canada, they pay 25%, but that can go up in terms of cars. If we set up the rates, we only say:” We don't want your cars in every way. “
Trump warned that he is currently not considering extra car rates, but he said there could be an increase.
Carney said last week that eliminating trade barriers in Canada would benefit the Canadians because he had his case to maintain power before a mood of 28 April. Carney has set a goal of free trade in the 10 provinces of the country and three areas before 1. Julie. Canada has long had interprovincial trade barriers.
“We can give ourselves much more than Donald Trump can ever take away,” said Carney. “We can have one economy. This is within our grip.”
Carney said that the relationship that Canada has had with the United States for the past 40 years has fundamentally changed because of Trump's rates. Trump's trade war and threats to make Canada the 51st state, Canadians furiously and led to an increase in Canadian nationalism that has strengthened the number of Liberal Party Poll.
