The harrowing final moments of an Uber driver and mother of four who was found murdered in the Pittsburgh area last weekend were captured on a dashcam video that helped police arrest her alleged killer this week.
Calvin Crew, 22, was taken into custody and charged with murder after the footage was discovered Thursday, according to court documents and local media. According to the Allegheny County Police Department, Crew was seen in the footage terrorizing 38-year-old Christine Spicuzza and holding a gun to her head as she drove.
Spicuzza was reported missing by her family on February 11 after never returning from her service as an Uber driver, and her body was found a day later. Her boyfriend is said to have told police at the time that he had bought her a dashcam for her work, although investigators noticed it was not among the items in her car.
Once it was found, the footage showed that Spicuzza Crew had begged to spare her after pulling a gun on her, police say.
“Come on, I have a family,” Spicuzza told Crew after the video allegedly showed him placing a firearm on the back of her head.
“I have a family too, now drive,” he replied.
The crew forced her to drive through multiple neighborhoods in Allegheny County and access her wallet on her phone, according to an indictment citing data from Uber. “I beg you, I have four children,” she told him.
“Keep driving,” he replied. “Do as I say and everything will be fine.”
Spicuzza’s dashcam eventually went off. Authorities found her car and her body the next morning with a single gunshot wound to her head in the town of Monroeville. While it wasn’t immediately clear what happened to Spicuzza after the camera went dark, authorities said it was likely “terrifying for Christine.”
The crew was arrested Thursday, jailed and charged with manslaughter, theft and tampering with evidence. His main motive was robbery, police said.
