Critics eyed far-right Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) with suspicion after she asked a question about the coronavirus on her recently reinstated Twitter account.
The extremist lawmaker, whose personal Twitter profile was banned for 11 months for sharing misinformation about COVID-19, noted how “so many people” are still wearing masks to contain the spread of the virus that more than 1 million has killed people in the US alone.
“I just want to ask you,” she continued. “If underwear, very thick, high-quality cotton, can’t protect you from a fart, how can a mask protect you from covid?”
While wearing masks is now not required by law in many situations, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says, “Masks are an essential public health tool for preventing the spread of COVID-19, and it is important to remember that any mask is better than no mask.”
Fart molecules are much smaller than COVID molecules.
Greene says she has not been vaccinated against COVID and has previously railed against vaccine and mask mandates for the coronavirus.
“Just like socks are not designed to be used as a condom,” one replied.
Another added: “Is this the kind of free speech @elonmusk supports? Asking for a friend.”
