CNN Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig was blown away after hearing President Donald Trump's answer to a question whether he would forgive the convicted sex trade and Jeffrey Epstein employee Ghislaine Maxwell would close.
“It is the easiest question in human history,” Honig told host Michael Smerconish on Saturday, and colleague Kevin Liptak quoted the right question: “Are you joking?”
Maxwell has a 20 -year prison sentence after he has been convicted of helping Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls.
On Friday, after the news that the number 2 civil servant of the Ministry of Justice had met Maxwell in the federal prison, a reporter asked Trump if he would consider a grace or commutation for her.
“It's something I didn't think about,” Trump replied. “I can do it, but it's something I haven't thought about.”
Honig expressed bewilderment on the answer.
“A grace for the worst, or no. 2 na Jeffrey Epstein, worst children's trader in modern history?” he said. “Absolutely not. No.”
Eventually Honig said that “it was” difficult to imagine “that Trump would forgive Maxwell, although he noticed” other people I know who are closer to Donald Trump and who worked with him in the past say that it could happen well. “
