China has warned against interference in his business and further disputes in the midst of regional conflicts.
“Today's world is at a different intersection: peace or war, dialogue or confrontation,” said Minister of Defense Dong Jun during the opening ceremony of the Xiangshan Forum in Beijing on Thursday.
Taiwan is an undeniable part of China, he said, adding that the liberation army of the people is a powerful power that is able to defend 'reunification'.
Beijing will never allow Taiwanese independence to succeed, Dong said. It is willing to thwart every “external military interference” at any time, he added, without mentioning specific countries.
Democratic Taiwan, home of 23.4 million people, has maintained an independent government since 1949. However, China claims Taiwan as part of his territory and has often threatened to annex it.
The United States, the most important backer of Taiwan, is legally obliged to support the defense capacities of the island democracy because of the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979.
Given the disputes, especially with the Philippines, about Resource-rich areas in the South Chinese Sea, Dong emphasized that China would protect his territorial sovereignty, as well as his rights and interests.
According to the minister, a pursuit of absolute military superiority and a “power is, good” approach would ultimately lead to a “rule of the jungle”.
China recently explained an Atol in the South Chinese Sea, a nature reserve.
The Xiangshan-Forum is considered the counter-event of China for the internationally renowned the Shangri-La Dialogue Security Conference, which is held in Singapore every year.
Western countries usually only send low representatives to the Xiangshan Forum – Germany and the US sent the military attachés from their embassies. In the meantime, this year, for the first time in a long time, China sent only a low -ranking delegation to Singapore, which made no personal meeting between Dong and the American Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth.
Some countries from Central -Asia and the Global South sent their ministers of the defense. According to information from Beijing, defense policyers and experts from more than 100 countries had confirmed their presence on the forum.
