The third live action entry of Blade Runner will be a streaming miniserie on Amazon Prime video, and Deadline reports that it is now planned for release in 2026.
“The update was provided by Laura Lancaster, head of the American SVOD TV Development and Series co-productions at Amazon MGM Studios, in an internal memo announced promotions for two managers, Kara Smith and Tom Lieber,” explained Deadline.
We have previously reported that the series entitled Blade Runner 2099was Greenlit under original film director Ridley Scott in 2022.
Since then there have been a few new developments, mainly in casting news. Blade Runner 2099 Michelle Yeoh will be the lead role (Everything everywhere at the same time; Squatted tiger, hidden dragon) and will also contain Hunter Schafer (Euphoria” The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Tom Burke (Black bag” Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) and Dimitri Coud (Warrior Nonalso The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), among others.
Very little else is known about the show, further than the fact that it will take place 50 years after the film 2017 Blade Runner 2049That it will be a live promotion -mini -series and that it will run six episodes.
The Showrunner will be Silka Luisa, a writer who is best known for her work on the TV series Radiant girls. (She also wrote an episode of Paramount+'s Halo TV series.) Ridley Scott is involved as an executive producer and is said to direct one or more episodes.
Neither Blade Runner 2049 Director Denis Villeneuve nor earlier franchisester stars of large screen Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling or Ana de Armas is known as involved.
The series will be part of a wave of revivals from classic Hollywood SCI-Fi franchises on streaming-for example, recently premiere FX series premiered Alien: earth (He streams on Disney+) has reached huge viewers figures and widespread criticism.
On the other hand, Amazon's own Mr. van de Rings: The rings of power TV series have found relatively lukewarm reception given the enormous budget.
