Biotech Company Regeneron to buy bankrupt 23andMe for $ 256 million

Biotechnology company Regeneron will acquire 23andMe from bankruptcy for $ 256 million, with a plan to keep the DNA test company without interruption and to fulfill the promises of privacy protection.

In its announcement of the acquisition, Regeneron insured the 15 million customers of 23 and me that their data – including genetic and health information, genealogy and other sensitive personal information – would be safe and in good hands. Regeneron wants to use the large series of genetic data to promote its own work with the help of genetics to develop medical progress – something 23and tried and failed me.

“As a world leader in human genetics, Regeneron Genetics Center is dedicated to and has a proven track record in protecting the genetic data of people around the world, and, with their permission, use this data to pursue discoveries that benefit science and society,” said Aris Genior, Senior Vice -prescription, in a President, In -Present. “We assure 23andMe customers that we are committed to protect the 23andMe data set with our high standards for data privacy, safety and ethical supervision and will promote full potential to improve human health.”

Baras said that the genetic center of Regeneron already has its own genetic data set of almost 3 million people.

The safety of the data set of 23andme has considerably concerned among consumers, legislators and supervisors in the midst of the demise of the company. In March, for example, Attorney General Rob Bonta, took the unusual step to encourage Californians to remove their genetic data in the midst of 23andme's financial need. Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, Andrew Ferguson, also weighed in a letter from March that “every buyer must explicitly agree to be bound by the conditions of the privacy policy and the applicable legislation of 23andMe.”
