REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) – President Joe Biden fell when he tried to get off his bike at the end of a drive in Cape Henlopen State Park near his Delaware beach house on Saturday, but said he was not injured.
“I’m fine,” he told reporters after agents of the US Secret Service quickly helped him to his feet. “I caught my foot” in the toe cages.
Biden, 79, and first lady Jill Biden were finishing a morning drive when the president decided to pedal toward a crowd of benefactors standing by the bike path. Biden, who was wearing a helmet, tumbled as he tried to dismount, apparently falling on his right side and rolling onto his back before being helped.
The president gathered quickly and spent several minutes chatting with people who had gathered to watch him ride his bike.
The Bidens spend a long weekend at their home in Rehoboth Beach. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Friday.
