Beer only injures people walking in Yellowstone National Park

September 17 (UPI) – A man suffered serious injury after he was attacked on Tuesday by a bear while walking alone in the Yellowstone National Park.

The attack took place while according to a press statement to the east of Yellowstone Lake, Turbid Lake Trail was, east of Yellowstone Lake. Park officials have closed the path since then and investigate the attack on the non-intended 29-year-old man.

The man used Berenspray, but still suffered “significant but non-lifferring injuries to his chest and left arm,” said the explanation. Park doctors responded to the incident and walked away with the walker, who was transported to Lake Medical Clinic and was later flown to a hospital.

The walker thought the bear was a black bear, but Park officials suspected that it was a grizzly bear who considered his size and behavior, according to the explanation. Beer management personnel plans to try DNA analysis to confirm the species.

“Because this incident was a defensive response by De Beer during a surprise meeting, the park will not undertake management action against the bear,” said the statement.

The park occasionally sees visitors injured by animals in the wild. A man from Florida was led by a bison in May after he got too close to the animal.

Elsewhere, a walker in Japan was found dead in the summer by a brown bear attack while walking in the rugged Hokkaido region of the country. In the western province of Canada of British Columbia, a man was seriously injured during a grizzly bear attack.

Bear attacks, however, remain disappearing rare. An article from 2019 published in Nature has shown that there are around 40 brown bear attacks per year worldwide, of which about a dozen take place in North America. Yellowstone is home to dangerous grizzly bears. But a paper from 2022 discovered that the risk per head of the population by being killed by a grizzly bear while visiting the park was one in 26.2 million park visitors.

Yellowstone National Park saw its busiest May on Record with more than 566,000 recreational visits that month.

Although so many people flocked to the approximately 3,500 square miles of the park, the attack on Tuesday is the first time that a bear is injuring someone in Yellowstone in years, according to the press release. The last time a bear injured someone in 2021 was when a solo walker was attacked by a Grizzly bear.
