A large group of dirt bike riders joined a chase involving the first two suspects in Los Angeles County on Thursday evening.
The suspects, wanted for a traffic violation, refused to stop, leading to a chase involving both air and ground units.
The riders were traveling at high speed when the chase began shortly before 4 p.m. They weaved dangerously through highway traffic, narrowly missing other drivers. At least one of the suspects reportedly tried to ram a motorcycle officer with his bicycle.
Sometimes we saw them chatting and texting each other on their phones as they drove away.
At one point, a group of nearly two dozen other riders on dirt bikes later joined the two suspects in the chase. The majority of the bikes were not street legal and many riders were not wearing helmets or protective gear.
They all stopped at a gas station to get gas before heading out again. Many were seen on the streets performing stunts and wheelies as officers followed them. The group eventually stopped under a highway underpass after motorcycle officers stopped following the riders.
At 5:50 p.m., a California Highway Patrol airship continued to circle overhead, searching for the two initial suspects.
The full video of the chase will be available soon. This development story will be updated.
