Are Sunday BMX bikes of good quality? (Rapid response!)

The biggest setback with most BMX bikes is the reliability of the frame. The frames just aren’t strong enough to withstand the demands of modern BMX riding, which is what forced Jim Cielencki to launch Sunday Bikes Company. But are Sunday BMX bikes any good?

Sunday BMX bikes are good because they feature 100% Chromoly frames, which use innovations such as Wave Tubing, Thermal Processing and Black Magic Coating to ensure strength and durability. Thus, these bikes define the reliability of the frame and therefore good value for money.

Keep in mind, though, that Sunday bikes are more than innovative frames. These BMX bikes are also about quality aftermarket components, affordability and style variety. More importantly, they prove their reliability with the assurance of lifetime coverage.

But as good as the BMX bikes are, some of their models are priced high and generally there are few high-end options. So you may have to make compromises in some cases.

In that regard, I’ll take a look at what makes Sunday BMX bikes good and what the drawbacks are to help you decide on them. But first, let me walk you through Sunday’s history in the BMX sector.

    Brand history

Sunday Bikes Company was founded in 2005 by Jim Cielencki. According to Mr. Cielencki, starting the company was meant to solve the ever-constant problem of unreliable frames.

He points out on the company’s website that most manufacturers struggle to balance the weight and strength of the frame. They either make stronger frames that are too heavy or lighter ones that are weaker, making them unreliable.

Reliability is about having the strongest frame that isn’t too heavy, and that’s what Sunday focuses on. While some of its bike frames weigh up to 29 pounds, they are not as heavy as most BMX bike frames and, most importantly, they are super strong because they are 100% Chromoly.

These frames are twice as strong as regular Chromoly frames and have a lower weight thanks to frame technologies such as Wave Tubing, Thermal Processing and Black Magic.

Overall, it’s been a learning curve for the company since its launch in 2005. For example, the company only produced heat-treated forks and handlebars during the launch year and the very first heat-treated frame a year after that.

In 2012, the company unveiled the Soundwave frame, arguably the highest quality bicycle frame. Today, the company uses a variety of frame technologies on its kids, adult, beginner and professional bikes.

    Sunday BMX Bikes Any Good

Why are Sunday BMX bikes good?

Reliability is Sunday’s selling point and you notice that in the choice of frame material and the innovation. Let’s briefly discuss the two:

    1. 100% chrome frame

Sunday BMX bikes use 100% Chromoly, which has several advantages over aluminum. Although the material is naturally heavier, the manufacturer thins it out to make the frames less stiff and less heavy, but quite strong. Diluted Chromoly promotes a smoother ride and is stronger than steel, so more resistant to fatigue.

    2. Frame innovation

The choice of frame material is not the only thing that makes the Sunday bicycle frames more robust, durable and reliable. The technologies used by the manufacturer also have a say, and they include the following:

    a) Corrugated Tubes

Wave Tubing is a technology the manufacturer uses to reinforce the top and bottom tubes and protect them from dents. The technology makes the down tube and top tube twice as strong to carry anything you throw at them.

    b) Boxed chainstays

The chainstays have a boxed design that, like Wave Tubing, helps to strengthen the frame against dents. In addition, the technology creates a larger clearance for the rear tire, allowing you to fit tires with a width of 2.35-2.40 inches.

    c) Butted seat tube

The seat tubes are double-butted to promise double the strength, which is crucial when riding aggressively on BMX bikes.

    d) Tapered seatstays and chainstays

Both the seatstays and chainstays have a tapered design that gives them and the frame a refined look. In addition, the two are angled to enjoy more chain and seat clearance while saving weight.

    e) Thermal processing (heat treatment)

Through thermal processing, the frames are designed to be stronger, but weigh less. The innovation is the pinnacle of the bicycle frame. Thermal processing ensures that the bicycle frame is resistant to tearing, breaking and breaking.

    f) Black Magic coating

Sunday bicycle frames do not rust because they enjoy a Black Magic coating, an anti-rust coating that the manufacturer applies as a finish.

    g) Integrated chain tensioner

The job of the integrated chain tensioner is to hold the bicycle wheel securely in place and make removing it seamless.
