Apple describes the end of Intel Mac support and a phasing out for Rosetta 2

The support list for MacOS Tahoe still contains Intel Macs, but it has been reduced to just four models, all released in 2019 or 2020. We speculated that this meant that the end was almost for Intel Macs, and now we can confirm alone How Come close: MacOS Tahoe will be the latest new macOS release to support all Intel Macs. All new releases starting with macOS 27 requires an Apple Silicon Mac.

Apple offers extra security updates for Tahoe until the autumn of 2028, two years after it has been replaced by macOS 27. That is a typical schedule for older macOS versions, all of which include large points updates that include security fixes and new functions, followed by two years of only received new functions to keep them patched.

Apple also plans changes to Rosetta 2, the Intel-to-Arm app translation technology that has been made to illuminate the transition between the entel and Apple Silicon periods. Rosetta will continue to work as a general translate tool in both macOS 26 and macOS 27.

But after that Rosetta will be reduced and only available for a limited subset of Apps, especially older games that depend on Intel-specific libraries, but are no longer actively maintained by their developers. DEVS who want their apps to keep running on macOS afterwards have to switch to Apple Silicon-Native Apps or universal apps that are performed on both architecture.
