Austin, Texas (AP) – Senator Angela Paxton in Texas, the wife of the Republican attorney -general Ken Paxton, submitted a divorce on Thursday to end 38 years of marriage while her husband campaigns for the US Senate.
Angela Paxton was held by her husband by a decade of legal problems, including state and federal corruption studies and a provision of the state of 2023 accusations that publicly exposed his illegitimate affair.
A complaint against securities fraud against Ken Paxton was recently rejected after a 2024 plea to pay a refund and full community service, and the Federal Department Department dropped a corruption probe earlier this year. His determination process of 2023 ended with his full acquittal.
Ken Paxton, a fierce and vocal ally of President Donald Trump, was first elected to attorney general in 2014 and is now campaigning to dismiss the old Senator John Cornyn in the Republican Primary 2026.
Angela Paxton, who stood with her husband during the trial of accusation, called “recent discoveries” in her announcement on social media that she had applied for a divorce.
“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I applied for a divorce on biblical grounds,” Paxton Paxton placed on X. “I believe that marriage is a holy covenant and I have pursued serious reconciliation. But in the light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that the God, my children, my children or Ken remains to stay in marriage.
“I will continue with full confidence that God always cooperates everything for the well -being of those who love him and who are called according to his goal,” she wrote.
Ken Paxton later placed his own explanation and asked for prayers and privacy.
“After having confronted the pressure of countless political attacks and public control, Angela and I decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” Paxton posted X. “I could not be more proud or more grateful for the incredible family with which God has blessed us, and I will continue to support our amazing children and grandchildren.”
Angela and Ken Paxton had been central figures in each other's rise in the politics of Texas. Angela Paxton, a former high school and accompaniment advisor teacher, played the guitar and sang: “I am a gun packin 'Mama and my husband complains Obama,” at his campaign events and Republican clubs throughout the state.
When it was time for Angela Paxton to launch her own political career, a $ 2 million loan pushed her to a scary victory for a Senate chair in the thriving suburbs of Dallas. Once chosen, she submitted accounts to expand the powers of his office and approved budgets about his state agency and salary.
As a senator of the state, Angela Paxton attended both weeks of the procedures and testimony of the accusation, including a dramatic moment when a woman was called to publicly testify about an affair she had with Ken Paxton. In the end, the woman never took the witness bank, but her relationship with Ken Paxton was central to a case that accused him of possibly going criminal lengths to help a local real estate developer who was currently under FBI research.
Angela Paxton was not allowed to vote on the verdict that ultimately acquitted her husband of all charges.
