Most airplane seats recline for a relaxing flying experience, but one man has told how another passenger's seat may have reclined too far.
In a recent post on He revealed in the post that he was in first class on an American Airlines flight.
“First class,” his post began. “Dude is lying on my lap. You continue to be terrible, @AmericanAir.
In the wire, the man explained that he had limited movement in the cabin. He suggested that the seat could slide so far back because it was broken.
“I can't use my tray and I don't have a chance to get up. I'm in 3C, so 2C is clearly broken. AA1851. Get it fixed before someone else wastes a fortune on first class and gets screwed over by @AmericanAir,” the post said.
In an interview with Fox Newsthe
“He shrugged his shoulders and basically said, 'It's an old plane; Some of these chairs are worn out,” he told the outlet. “No matter how I positioned myself, the chair was still against my knees. The gentleman in the seat in front of me was very sympathetic, but he was unable to lock the seat forward because it could not be operated.”
American Airlines later responded to the passenger's complaint, commenting under his post apologizing for the uncomfortable experience.
“Keeping our aircraft in top shape is always the goal,” they wrote. “We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We will pass this on to the maintenance people for review. Once again our apologies.”
However, he still wasn't satisfied with the apology as the man replied, “Maintenance isn't going to review the money I wasted…”
Speak with Foxthe social media user explained that he spent an extra $500 on a first-class seat specifically for extra legroom, which was not possible due to the seat malfunction.
This isn't the first time someone has complained about a seat on a flight. In September, Erin Rempel turned to TikTok to share a video of her experience in the middle seat of a plane.
The clip showed her sitting in the middle seat, with two men on either side of her, who had stretched their legs out so far that it looked like she was sitting flat in her seat. The text on the screen of her video simply read: “Female rage.”
“Why would anyone EVER need that much space??? I tried to get him to move but I couldn't,” she wrote in the caption of her video.
Her TikTok subsequently racked up more than 20 million views, with many people using the comments to express how they were just as angry as Rempel. Some people even mentioned the display of “manspreading” – when a man spreads his legs in a public seating area, typically taking up an extra seat or invading the space of others.
“Girl, you gotta say something. They don't have to be there that often. If you're nervous, call a flight attendant,” one commenter noted at the time.
