About 20 Natick High students ran out of the class on Wednesday. This is why they did it

    Natick-a group of about 20 Natick High School students walked out of school on Wednesday 30 April, in protest against the current Israel-Hamas war.

    At about 1 p.m. the students walked outside high school on West Street and across the street. There they called for the war, a cease-fire in the region, the release of all hostages taken by Hamas and the establishment of a two-state solution.

    Students also made it clear that they oppose any form of anti -Semitism.

    “We are protesting against the genocide in Gaza,” Hatcher said Cheeseman-Meeyer during the strike The Daily News. He said that the purpose of the strike was to increase the consciousness of Palestinians that were killed in the course of the conflict.

    Ozzy Wast, another student, said he “stood against the genocide in solidarity.” Wide, who wore a “make Israel Palestine” hat again, said that although he does not think the strike will achieve a lot, he hoped that consciousness would bring.

    This is not the first time Natick students have risen about controversial problems. In June 2022, students walked away to support the reform of the Weapon Act about a week after a shooter killed 19 students and two teachers at a primary school in Uvalde, Texas.

    Corrie Kerr, Director of Communication for Natick Public Schools, shared a statement that e -mailed the district to parents and guardians. In it, managers said that as they balance the free speech of students, they recognized that some people can have about how this could influence their school day, sense of safety and sense of solidarity.

    “To facilitate a non-disturbed school environment, we have told the students that if they choose to collect, they have to do this outside the campus under appropriate supervision,” is the e-mail. “Furthermore, in accordance with our earlier practice, when we are aware of student meetings outside the campus, we inform our partners of the Natick Police Department, who work with us to support our young people.”

    The message stated that in accordance with the Student Handbook the school does not approve the students who miss the school without the correct documentation.

    “We have had contact with the student organizers and have made them aware that the missing class will have the typical attendance-related consequences,” the e-mail will continue. “We also communicated with our employees to continue with our regular school day as planned.”

    In addition to saying that every hate -sowing speech, bullying or retribution must be reported immediately, the E -Mail concludes: “Our goal is to support all students, regardless of their views, to feel safe, respected and heard in our school community.”
