Michael Cohen, former lawyer and fixer for former President Donald Trump, says Trump is still nervous enough despite not being personally convicted in the Trump Organization tax fraud lawsuit.
Cohen filed the remarks an appearance on MSNBC, where he talked about how the Trump Organization was found guilty of tax fraud in Manhattan on Tuesday. The verdict means the Trump Organization now has felony status as Trump enters his third presidential candidacy. Trump escaped personal sentencing, but on Tuesday railed against his organization’s punishment for the fraud allegations.
Cohen told MSNBC that Trump should be “really nervous” about what’s to come, saying Trump will likely have more criminal exposure. Cohen added that Trump should be concerned that he, too, has spoken to the New York district attorney’s office more than a dozen times about his work at the company.
“I can tell you he should be very uncomfortable,” Cohen told MSNBC, referring to his own testimony before the district attorney.
Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to felonies including tax evasion, campaign finance violations and bank fraud. He was sentenced to three years in prison in December 2018 and was disbarred by the New York Supreme Court in February 2019. He has since cooperated with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office in their investigation of the former president.
Cohen predicted in September that Attorney General Letitia James’ $250 million civil lawsuit against the Trump Organization will “ultimately end the company.” At the time, he said one or two of Trump’s grown children might have to “fall on the sword for him” to keep him out of trouble.
Trump and his companies are still embroiled in at least a dozen investigations, including an investigation in Georgia’s Fulton County into whether Trump and his associates attempted to interfere in the state’s 2020 presidential election. Another high-profile investigation includes a DOJ-led investigation into whether Trump mishandled classified and top secret documents by bringing them to his Mar-a-Lago residence.
A representative from Trump’s post-presidential news agency did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
