On Sunday night, former President Donald Trump went to Truth Social to be outraged by the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago, accusing agents of not taking off their shoes when searching his bedroom.
Trump announced earlier on Sunday that he would be “on his way soon” to Mar-a-Lago. He wrote that he wanted to see “the needless looting of rooms and other parts of the house”, adding that he felt “completely violated”.
Hours later, Trump said he had arrived at his residence in Florida and had “a long and detailed chance” to look around the property. He claimed in his post that the FBI’s lawful search of his property was a violation of his Fourth Amendment rights, while complaining that his home “would never be the same.”
“It was ‘looted’ and in a very different state from the way I left it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “A lot of cops – And they didn’t even take their shoes off in my bedroom. Nice!!!”
This isn’t the first time Trump has expressed anger at FBI agents who searched his personal items. In August, Trump accused investigators of leaving former First Lady Melania Trump’s closet in a “mess” after the search. He too claimed the investigators searched his son Barron’s room.
Earlier this month, Trump claimed the FBI made him look disheveled by deliberately spreading documents on the ground to photograph them during the Mar-a-Lago raid. This was after the Justice Department shared a photo of classified documents lying on a carpet.
“They took them out of boxes and scattered them on the carpet, making it seem like a big ‘find’ to them,” he wrote on Truth Social. “They dropped them, not me – very deceiving…” he added.
“Maybe pretend it was me who did it!” Trump added in a separate message the same day.
During the Mar-a-Lago search, the FBI seized 11 sets of classified documents, including some marked “top secret” and some that may have involved nuclear weapons. The DOJ is investigating whether Trump has violated any of three federal laws — including the Espionage Act — by keeping the documents at his Florida residence.
Representatives from the DOJ and Trump’s post-presidential news agency did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
