Alabama escapee Casey White faces charges of murder in the death of jailer Vicky White

Casey Cole White, an escapee from a Lauderdale County jail, is charged with murder in the death of the jailer.

Vicky White died on May 9 in Evansville, Indiana, from what authorities said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the car the two fugitives were traveling in crashed during a police chase.

The indictment, filed last month by a Lauderdale County jury, says Casey White “caused the death of Vicky White, who died of a gunshot wound in the middle of the course of and advancing the commission of a first-degree breakout.” head.”

Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly announced that an arrest warrant had been issued Tuesday for Casey White, as a result of the charges. In a press release, Connolly said no further information would be available.

Casey White’s attorney, Mark McDaniel, said White will make a not-guilty plea on the charges. He said he couldn’t speculate on Connelly’s theories about Vicky White’s death that led to the charges.

He said the defense will file appropriate motions, including a motion for a copy of Vicky White’s autopsy report.

Casey White is also facing a murder charge in the 2015 murder of Connie Ridgeway. The pending charges in the Ridgeway murder took him to Lauderdale County Prison for legal proceedings earlier this year.

On the morning of April 29, Vicky White told colleagues that she took Casey White to a mental evaluation in the courthouse, and security cameras filmed her leaving prison with him. Authorities would later learn that the Vicky White had another vehicle waiting in a parking lot, where she left her marked unit to leave town with the prisoner.

By the time authorities realized an evaluation’s claim was bogus, the pair had a six-hour lead.

By the time authorities released a vehicle description, the duo had abandoned that car and bought a truck in Tennessee. They made their way to Evansville, where the truck would be found days later at a car wash, and the two would be traced to a motel in Evansville.

Evansville Police and U.S. Marshals were watching the two as they exited the motel in a Cadillac and started a chase. It ended with the car crashing into a ditch and Vicky White’s death – according to all law enforcement accounts to date, at her own hand.

Casey White was taken into custody without further incident. Body camera footage that was made public captured him telling authorities he did not shoot Vicky White and denied killing Ridgeway.

When he was returned to Alabama, Casey White was returned to Donaldson Correctional Facility, where he served a 75-year sentence on multiple Limestone County charges, including robbery and attempted murder.
