MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A New York man died Thursday in a flooded basement in Washington Heights, police said.
Police received a 911 call reporting a person in distress at 701 West 175th Street. The man was in the basement, where the boiler room was located, when it flooded, authorities said.

Witnesses say the 43-year-old victim passed out and became unresponsive. Emergency medical services and police were called to assist. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesperson said.
It is still unclear how the victim died.
The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
