Several people are shot in the Michigan Mormon Church who is on fire after active shooter, police say

Several people were shot in a Mormon church in Michigan, and the shooter is “down,” the police said.

The shooting broke out in the church of the Letter Day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, about 65 miles north of Detroit, just after 11 o'clock local time on Sunday, said Grand Blanc's police.

“There has been an active shooter in the church of the Saints on the last day on McCandlish RD. There are several victims and the shooter is finished,” the police said.

Authorities said there was no constant threat to the public, but that the church was “actively on fire” after the shooting. It was not immediately clear how many people were shot and the size of their injuries.

Images showed large flames that flooded a large part of the building as thick, gray plumes of smoke blew over the area.

They insisted on people to stay away from the area.

A reunification center was founded near the church, which is located near residential areas and a Jehovah's Witness Church in Grand Blanc, a community of around 8,000 people just outside Flint.
