Electric vehicles (EVs) can offer a wide range of benefits compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, outside environmental reasons. Firstly, the costs for charging EVs are often considerably less than what you would pay to refuel an ice car at a gas station.
This fuel difference is especially noticeable when comparing Teslas, which are usually very efficient, versus a large ice vehicle, such as a Chevorlet Silverado Pick -Up.

Admittedly, the comparisons are not apples with apples, because most Teslas are much smaller than Chevy Silverados, although the Tesla Cybertruck is closer in size. Nevertheless, Teslas get much better kilometers per gallon (MPG) equivalent, even when comparing the cyber truck versus electric versions of the Chevy Silverado, according to federal data.
So if you are considering switching from a relatively inefficient car such as an ice silver ado to a Tesla, this is what the fuel saving could look like.
Given that Teslas has better fuel consumption than all versions of the Chevy Silverado, the more kilometers you drive, the grim the cost savings would be. But even if you control an average amount – about 1,123 miles per month, according to data from the Federal Highway Administration – you would usually still save a lot by driving a Tesla.
Also note that the vast majority of EV charging takes place at home, according to the International Energy Agency. Although the costs can be higher if you often charge public stations, this is what the average Tesla loading costs look like based on average electricity rates for homes throughout the country, according to data from Tesla and the US Energy Information Administration.
Model |
Estimated monthly tank costs |
Tesla Model 3 rear -wheel drive, |
$ 49 |
Tesla Model y Long distance Alterwiel drive |
$ 54 |
Tesla Model S Dual Motor Four -wheel drive |
$ 54 |
Tesla model x dual engine four -wheel drive |
$ 64 |
For comparison: the most efficient ice version of a Silverado from 2025 gets around 26 mpg. This means that driving the average kilometers of the US requires around 43 liters of gas per month. H uses nearly 47 gallons based on that average of 24 mpg and notice that other exploratory models are even less per gallon.

So based on the national average gas price of $ 3,192 per gallon, according to the US Energy Information Administration, this means that it costs more than $ 137 a month to raise a Chevy Silverado.
