Reddit -Bug ensured that Lesbian Subreddit was labeled as a place for “straight” women

Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt further said to Ars and said:

There was a small bug in a test that we walked wrongly that caused the English-togelse translation (s) that you saw. That bug has been resolved. It is not surprising that English-English translations are not part of our strategy because they are not necessary. English-English translations were not desired or expected outcome of the test.

Reddit still pulled the test it carried out, but the translations of mechanical learning to work still, said Rathschmidt. The company is planning to resolve the bug and can be re -implemented -specified “test”.

The explanation of Reddit differs from the user theories that floated in advance, which were mainly that Reddit rewrited by the user with generative AI, possibly to stimulate SEO. Some can still be disturbed by the problem that continues to exist for weeks without explanation and the apparent lack of manual checks for the translation service. However, Redditors can now comfort and know that Reddit currently does not use a generative AI to change content generated by users without notification.

However, Paige_Railstone maintains frustration and wants to tell Reddit managers: “Stop. Go out.” The translation bug, she noticed, led people to post on a subreddit for parents with autism that their child could be autistic, “and how terrible that would be for them,” Paige_Railstone remembered.

“These are the kind of unintentionally offensive messages that drive autistic to leave a community, and it increases the workload of American moderators,” they said.

Paige_Railstone also sees the incident as a reason for moderators to be more careful.

“In the past this was never a concern, but this translation service was rolled out without any notification where I am aware, and not an option to eliminate it within the control of the mods. That has the potential to cause problems, as we have seen in the past two weeks,” they said.
