A Filipino health worker is said to retaliate against a woman who spit on her on Saturday while she was on an N Broadway Express train in New York City.
Philippine Consul General in New York Elmer Cato shared information about the alleged incident on Saturday in a tweet using the hashtag #StopAsianHate.
“A woman attacked the wrong Asian on the N train this morning,” Cato wrote. “She spat on her hand and wiped her saliva on a young Filipino hospital worker sitting next to her. Then she saw some stars. Our Kababayan [fellow Filipino] comes from a family of boxing legends in the Philippines.”
When requested further commentCato did not share additional information, citing security concerns regarding the Philippine employee.

According to Cato, his office has recorded “nearly 40 incidents” of hate crimes and other criminal incidents in New York City involving Filipinos since 2021.
One such incident is the attack on a 67-year-old Filipino woman who was punched in the head and face more than 125 times at her apartment in Yonkers, New York, in March.
Cato joined community leaders and local officials on March 15 to condemn the rise in hate crimes facing Filipinos and other members of the Asian-American community.

“We know that the authorities are doing their best to make the streets safe again, but we also understand that they cannot be everywhere,” he said at the time. news conference† “However, we do hope that authorities will step up their efforts to remove violent and dangerous people from the streets and make everyone — not just Filipinos or other members of the Asian-American community — feel safe again.”
