Bloomington Man reins with dog months after disappearing

Bloomington, ill. (Wmbd) -A Bloomington -Man is celebrating a heart -warming reunion After unexpectedly found his lost dog, thanks to a social media post from McLean County Animal Control.

Jason Mirous said he raised his dog, Jaxon, from the moment he was only three weeks old.

“He was premature, barely from a bottle of food,” said Mirous. “He was my first child.”

Jaxon, half a red nose, half -blue nose pit bull, became part of the family just before Mirous had his first child. But after he welcomed his second baby in the family, space and time became tight. Hoping to ensure that Jaxon was cared for, Mirous asked a good friend to take him temporarily.

“He had a bond with Jaxon, and it seemed like a good fit,” said Mirous.

Over time, communication with that friend started to fade. Mirous says he was trying to call and text without answering until one day he saw a disturbing post on social media.

“His girlfriend placed that Jaxon was lost,” he said. “I was confused because I tried to reach them.”

After months of uncertainty and searching, Mirous saw a post from McLean County Animal Control, a dog called “Jaxon”, spelled exactly how he used to play it, was in adoption.

“I ran there the next morning,” he said. “The moment he saw me, he lifted up. It was like:” Where did you go? “

Mirous learned that Jaxon had been deposited anonymously and spent four months in the shelter. Although they were chipped as a puppy, the staff told him that they could not find records.

“That shocked me,” he said. “They couldn't find the chip, but they somehow had his vaccination records when he was a baby.”

Although grateful for the reunion, Mirous is frustrated that he was never contacted before Jaxon was set up for adoption or castrated.

“If we had known that he was there, we would have been on that pound the same day. He would not have been there for four months,” he said.

Now at home, Jaxon adjusts a little more energetic and a little less obediently, but Mirous said their band is stronger than ever.

“It's like he never left,” he said. “He's not going anywhere this time. He will grow old and die with me.”
