National Grid -Mislukings led to a fire that caused the closure of Heathrow, says Report says

Story: A fire that in March in March in Heathrow Sloot, which ran thousands of passengers, was caused by the failure of National Grid to maintain an electricity station.

That is according to an official report that was released on Wednesday.

The closure of Heathrow, the busiest airport in Europe, cost airlines tens of millions of pounds.

It also raised questions about the resilience of the British infrastructure.

The report follows an evaluation of the incident on March 21 by the operator of the National Energy System.

It manages the electricity network and was separated from National Grid last year.

As a result of the report, the energy regulator of Groot -Britain Vangem launched an enforcement test.

It said that the assessment had seen the evidence that a “catastrophic malfunction” on one of the high -voltage buses of the transformer at the substation of the transformer ensured that the transformer broke.

And that national grid controls are in place were not effective.

A spokesperson for the National Grid said that the company had an extensive assets inspection and maintenance program.

And that it had taken further action since the fire.

Orgem plans to assess whether National Grid had complied with the relevant legislation and licensing conditions.

As well as an independent audit to assess whether the shortcomings were a one -off or systemic.
