At least eight people were shot dead, including one fatally, on a memorial day in eastern Oklahoma, state officials said on Sunday, May 29.
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, more than 1,500 revelers had gathered at the annual Taft outdoor festival, held in the city’s Old City Square.
Taft is located about 46 miles southeast of Tulsa.
Shortly after midnight, “gunfire broke out,” researchers said. Two of the seven injured survivors are minors, police say.
The sheriff’s deputies present immediately intervened and provided assistance on the spot, the OSBI said.
It is not clear what led to the shooting, but witnesses said an argument had preceded it.
No suspects have been arrested, but the OSBI is continuing the investigation.
