Washington (Reuters) – National public radio and three public radio stations in Colorado prosecute the Trump government on the executive order of the president to reduce federal financing for public broadcaster, NPR said Tuesday.
The order of US President Donald Trump against NPR and colleague -public broadcaster PBS earlier this month, apart from the use of congress, assigned funds, the first amendment violated it, said it.
“The intention cannot be clearer – the executive order is intended to punish NPR for the content of news and other programming of the president,” said NPR CEO Katherine Maher in a statement. “This is retaliation, position-based discrimination in violation of the first amendment.”
Aspen Public Radio, Colorado Public Radio and KSUT Public Radio also joined the lawsuit, according to the statement.
Representatives of the White House could not be reached immediately for comment.
