“Who's priorities have increasingly reflected the prejudices and interests of commercial medicine,” said Kennedy, referring to his anti-vaccine and germ theory denial views. He punished the health organization because he reportedly capitulated to China and collaborated with the country to “promote the fiction that Covid originated in bats”.
Kennedy ended the short speech by praising his Make America Healthy Again Agenda. He also insisted on the WHO to undergo a radical revision that is comparable to what the Trump government is currently doing to the US government -presumably including dismantling and withholding of critical health authorities and programs. Finally, he threw other countries to join the US when leaving the WHO.
“I would like to use this opportunity to invite my colleague ministers around the world to a new era of collaboration … We are ready to work with you,” said Kennedy.
In the meantime, the WHA collaboration embraced. During the meeting this week, which voted overwhelming to take on the first Pandemic Convention of the World, was aimed at preventing the collective, preparing for and responding to future pandemies. The treaty lasted more than three years to negotiate, but in the end no country voted against it – 124 votes in favor, 11 abstentions and no objections. (The US, who is no longer a member of WHO, had no voice.)
“The world is safer today thanks to the leadership, cooperation and dedication of our Member States to accept the historic WHO Pandemic Agreement,” said Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “The agreement is a victory for public health, science and multilateral action. It will ensure that we can jointly protect the world against future pandemic threats. It is also a recognition by the international community that our citizens, societies and economies should not be vulnerable to suffer losses as laid down during Covid-19.”
