A seafood restaurant on Cape COD is being demolished after a huge fire has been torn through the building on Sunday morning.
According to Sandwich Fire Chief John Burke, firefighters reacted to Captain Scott's Restaurant Tupper Road around 5:30 am
When crews arrived, they were confronted with heavy smoke and flames that flowed from the back of the building.
Firefighters initially launched an interior attack, but the floor became unstable within about 20 minutes and they were forced to attack from the outside, Burke said.
One firefighter was treated on the spot for heat exhaustion, but did not need a hospitalization. No other injuries were reported.
The fire caused an estimated $ 1 million in damage and the building has been declared a total loss.
Video from the aftermath shows an excavator that remained the building.
Chief Burke said that firefighters had trouble putting out fire because of wind directions and how old the building was.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, but Burke says that the first study suggests something electrically.
This is a developing story. Come back for updates as more information becomes available.
