Three ex-Minneapolis cops guilty of violation of George Floyd’s rights

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Reuters) -Three former Minneapolis police officers were found guilty on Thursday by a federal jury of depriving George Floyd of his civil rights by failing to assist the handcuffed black man who was held below the knee of a colleague. The jury also found that the conduct of officers Tou Thao, 36; J. Alexander Kueng, 28; and Thomas Lane, 38, caused Floyd’s death during the May 25, 2020 arrest, a finding that could influence the severity of their sentences. It is rare for police officers to be held criminally responsible for a colleague’s excessive force.
