The German car sales of Tesla will continue to fall in March

(Reuters) – Tesla (TSLA) saw its sales volume in Germany in March by 42.5% fall, according to the German traffic agency KBA, although the sale of electric vehicles of the battery has been picked up in general.

KBA said on Thursday on its website that Tesla sold 2,229 cars in Germany in March, a decrease of 42.5% compared to year earlier. The number of Teslas sold between January and March 2025 fell by 62.2% to 4,935 units, compared to the same period last year.

The total number of newly registered electric vehicles, on the other hand, increased by 35.3% in March, said KBA.

On Wednesday, Tesla said that her quarterly sales volume in almost three years fell 13% to the weakest, hurt by the rising global competition, a return against the political activities of CEO Elon Musk and by some customers waiting for a renewal of the most sold model Y.

Minister of German economy Robert Habeck said on Thursday in a press conference that the brand had suffered.

“The perception is that the passion for Tesla has suffered enormously in recent weeks and months, which is perhaps a good opportunity for the car industry in Germany. There is also a gap in the market when they market good, powerful cars,” Habeck said.
