(Reuters) -Britain's King Charles spent a short time in the hospital in the hospital after side effects for cancer, Buckingham Palace said, with royal sources saying that it was only a “small bump in the way”.

The 76-year-old king is treated since he was set a non-specific form of cancer in February last year after corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate.

The palace said he had returned to his house Clarence House, and that his assignments as a precaution would be planned for Friday. His wife, Queen Camilla, had not accompanied him to the hospital.

“His Majesty would receive login details from the ambassadors of three different countries this afternoon. Tomorrow he would undertake four public assignments in Birmingham and he is enormously disappointed to miss them on this occasion,” said a spokesperson for the Palace.

“He very much hopes that they can be moved in due course and offers his deepest apologies to anyone who had worked so hard to make the planned visit possible.”

The palace refused to give details about the side effects. But a royal source described Thursday's setback as no more than the “most small bump in the way that goes a lot in the right direction” and that it was not unusual with medical treatments.

The king's recovery remained in a very positive direction and that he was in good shape and continued to work and calling his studies, the source said.

From his state visit to Italy next month together with the queen, it was expected to take place as planned, and no other health update is expected.

The first diagnosis of Charles came in his reign as a shock for less than 18 months.

However, Royal Assistants have since been cheerful about his health and although his diary is carefully managed, he has returned to a busy work schedule.

Known as a workaholic that often worked on his official newspapers until late, Camilla and other family members said that he had to be encouraged to slow down.

The Royal Bron said that the king's medical team was completely involved in discussions during his schedule, and said that responses to the treatment can be unpredictable.

The king's disease coincided with that of his daughter -in -law Kate, 43, the wife of his older son Prince William, who has also undergone treatment for cancer.

She said in January that she was now in remission and gradually returned to tasks.
