The one kite dead, another injured after shooting incident at the Air Force Base of Kirtland

One kite is dead and another is injured with a Scot wound after a “shooting incident” with security forces on Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico early Saturday.

Safety forces assigned to the 377th Security Forces Squadron on Kirtland Air Force Base responded to “an incident” around 2 o'clock Saturday, which led to the shooting, the basis said in a statement.

The wounded Airman was shot in the hand and transported to the University of New Mexico Medical Center for treatment, the base said. He has since been released.

The other kite was found on the spot, Kafb said.

“The cause of death and the incident are being investigated by the local authorities,” said the basis in the release.

In an update on Facebook, the basis said: “Officials are investigating an incident that took place early this morning near Kirtland Air Force Base”, although it was not immediately clear which civil servants lead the investigation or where exactly it happened.

The basis said that there is currently no threat to the public or to base staff, and that the Truman -Poort and the Truman visitor center are closed until further notice.

No other details have been released by the basis with regard to the incident.
