Dallas Mavericks Assistant Coach attacked girlfriend after reading his texts, the police say

    An assistant coach from Dallas Mavericks is in custody and is confronted with accusations of serious abuse with a fatal weapon after an incident with his girlfriend, officials say.

    Darrell Armstrong, 56, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday after he reportedly beat his girlfriend on the right side of her face with a gun, according to an arrest statement that was seen by The Dallas Morning News.

    The Dallas police were called to Armstrong's house after they had received an emergency call on Saturday.

    When the police arrived, they found the victim to stand next to her father according to the statement in a nearby parking lot.

    Armstrong and the woman are supposed to date since September 2024.

    The incident is said to have folded off after the friend of Armstrong read a text from another woman on his phone. This led to the former Point Guard Coach to blow up in anger, to hit his partner in the face with his gun and to shoot her, according to the sworn explanation.

    “Armstrong then loaded a full magazine in the gun and said,” I'm going to shoot you “”, the statement read.

    Armstrong is supposed to be drunk when the violence unfolded and was heard on the phone with another person around the time he hit his girlfriend. He also demanded that she handed the apartment keys, the documents.

    When finding the ailing woman on the street with her family, officers confirmed a stamp on the right cheek of the victim, according to the sworn statement.

    It is also said that a witness has witnessed the Mavericks coach who drank and cursed with the victim.

    Officers knocked on the door of the apartment and had retained without incidents. A gun was then found in the house, where Armstrong claimed that he had slept with a charged magazine that had no bullet in the room, according to the arrest document. Since then he has placed and released Bond.

    Armstrong is also accused of strangling the victim during an earlier incident.

    The woman, too afraid of how the accusations could “put him in trouble or made sure he lost his job,” the earlier cases of alleged violence did not report.

    Public registers seen by The independent Armstrong revealed that in May 2023 was involved in a criminal case, but it did not mention the specific violations. Other criminal registers state that years before the alleged incident he was confronted with real estate, fraud and traffic -related charges.

    Armstrong is located in its 10th season, with the NBA champions 2011 joined the franchise staff in 2009.

    He played with the Mavericks from 2004 to 2006.

    The team confirmed that an employee on administrative leave was placed, but refused to mention Armstrong in the statement.

    “The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident in which a member of our staff is involved and collect all relevant information about the incident.

    “We take this issue seriously. The employee is placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings. This issue is currently assessed by the right legal authorities. Because of this fact, we will allow the legal process to have carried out its course and we will abandon further comments while the procedures are underway ”, according to The New York Post.

    The Dallas Mavericks have a continuous fundraising that focuses on supporting the loved ones of people who died of rifles.

    Armstrong's lawyer, Larry Taylor, a managing partner at the Cochran company, is reportedly conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
