Temu and Shein increased the prices, removed products while Trump's Chinese rates came into force

Lorianna Calhoun, a Shein -Shopper, says Wired who of the approximately 170 items ever stood on her Shein wish list, 40 now don't seem to be available now. She noticed that they disappeared on Thursday afternoon. It is not clear how Shein and Temu are possible what items they should remove, but Calhoun says that, at least in her case, the majority of the goods she observed was the eye eyelashes and hair products were missing. “Usually, when things are sold out, you can still click on the item and see all the reviews and view that,” she explains. “But now it says: 'Sorry that this item has been removed. This product does not exist. '' '

A Reddit user, who asked to remain anonymous for privacy reasons, shared screenshots with Wired who show half of the products in their SHEIN shopping cart, was also not available on Thursday, mainly items from Shein's Sheglam Cosmetics. They say they are planning to wait and see if the products will soon return to the Shein website. “Shein and Temu will still get my business. If they increase their prices, it will hopefully only be a bit, “says the Reddit user.

Temu and Shein did not respond to requests for comments from Wired.

In 2023, a third of the minimis shipments arrived in the US came from China, according to the Chinese export and American import data. Many came through Air Cargo in just a few days, instead of Via Ocean Freight, who can take weeks or even more than a month.

“These companies have perfected this modern miracle, which is sent to the US in a very consistent and reliable way of China,” says Juozas Kaziukėnas, founder of the E -commerce lining company Market Pulse. The Trump rates not only announced the costs last week considerably for companies such as Shein and Temu, but could also slow down the shipping process as logistics companies and customs brokers who adapt to the government requirements.

But not all products and services of Temu and Shein are influenced, because both companies are increasingly storing goods in American warehouses in recent years to get orders to customers even faster. The BIDEN administration also repeatedly indicated that it was interested in reforming the Minimis exemption for import obligation, so that companies can reduce their dependence on it.

From Friday, Temu's American homepage was almost completely filled with products that the company specified were sent from local warehouses – which means that they have already cleared us and possibly crossed the border before the rates even came into effect.
