Everyone longs for the whole day of breakfast in Waffle House, needs an extra 50 cents for every egg in their omelette or scrambled eggs, the restaurant chain up, the restaurant chain said on Monday.
Waffle House said in a statement that the temporary allowance, which came into force the same day, was added to tackle the rising costs of eggs as a result of the bird flu.
The “continuous egg deficit” caused by very pathogenic Aviaire influenza, “has caused a dramatic rise in egg prices,” said Waffle House in the statement. “Consumers and restaurants are forced to make difficult decisions.”
Supermarkets and restaurants now pay around $ 7.79 for a dozen midwest large eggs, the industrial stand, an increase of $ 3.33 a year ago, according to Expana, a company that collects and follows the price of eggs. For that price, each egg would cost around 65 cents.
Wafle House, which was founded in 1955 and now has more than 1,900 locations in 25 states, serves more than 272 million eggs per year according to the company's website. The chain, which is located in Georgia, said that the allowance instead of increasing the prices in his menu was “temporarily focused.”
“Although we hope that these price fluctuations will be short -lived, we cannot predict how long this shortage will take,” said Waffle House. “We constantly monitor the prices of eggs and will adjust or remove the surcharge as allowing market conditions.”
For many consumers, the price of eggs has become a tangible barometer of the economy and the rising costs of food in the United States. Shoppers who are going to trust eggs if a traditional cheap protein source complained about the high prices – about 37 percent higher last month than a year earlier – and empty shelves of the supermarket where eggs were abundant.
The costs of eggs have also been a political conversation point. Donald J. Trump complained about the high prize of eggs when he walked before President last year. Earlier this month, Brooke Rollins, Mr Trump's candidate for the Secretary of Agriculture, said that one of her top priorities was to “get a completely grip on outbreaks of animal diseases.”
The prices of the egg rise due to inflation and bird flu, which found itself to the United States in 2022 after it was detected in Canada. To date, the disease has infected or killed nearly 150 million birds. But the situation has become worse in recent months. More than 30 million chickens have recently been killed to prevent the spread of diseases and experts say it can take months before the delivery of eggs of eggs stabilizes.
In the meantime, Waffle House has added stickers to his menus who inform customers about the allowance, according to CNN, while he emphasizes that eggs remain a staple of his food.
“As long as they are available, quality, freshly scracked, degree-a large eggs remain an important ingredient in many of our customers' favorite meals,” said Waffle House.
