Russian court extends arrest of American basketball player Griner
Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was arrested in February at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, allegedly in possession of cannabis-infused vaporizer cartridges. The US State Department has said the 31-year-old was wrongly detained and has appointed diplomats to work for her release. Washington and Moscow have kept diplomatic channels open since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, despite the poor state of bilateral relations.
