Man wanted for child pornography in two Massachusetts towns hiding in remote campground, FBI say

    A man wanted on child pornography charges in two Massachusetts communities was arrested Monday after he was found hiding at a remote campsite in Connecticut, law enforcement officials said.

    Steven Labrecque, 40, was captured at a campground in Woodstock where he is believed to have been hiding for months, according to the United States Marshals Service.

    Labrecque was wanted by police in Franklin and New Bedford on charges of child pornography, photographing intimate parts of a child, intimidation of a witness, reckless endangerment of a child, menacing, obscene matter against a minor, assault and battery. confirmed in a press release.

    Unsuccessful attempts to locate and arrest Labrecque resulted in a local police request for U.S. Marshals assistance, leading to Labrecque's meeting place at the campsite.

    Connecticut State Police treated Labrecque as a fugitive from justice. He is now awaiting extradition to Massachusetts to face the charges against him.

    “The high-risk arrest of Mr. Steven Labrecque on child pornography-related charges is the culmination of a multi-state investigative effort that involves close cooperation between federal, state and local departments,” said Lawrence Bobnick, Acting U.S. Marshal for the District . of Connecticut said in a statement. “Despite his extraordinary efforts to evade capture, Mr. Labrecque's arrest demonstrates the tenacity of the USMS Violent Fugitive Task Force and the incredible value our law enforcement partnerships have in fulfilling our mutual mission to ensure the safety of the communities we serve to improve.”

    It was not immediately clear when Labrecque would be returned to Massachusetts.
