Teen Arrested After Violent Online Threats Against Rancho Mirage High School

Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy in Cathedral City, accusing him of making violent threats online against Rancho Mirage High School. The teen's home was searched, but no weapons were found.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said that on Wednesday, Sept. 4, around 6 p.m., deputies received a report that someone had posted online threats regarding school violence. With help from the FBI, they identified a home in the 27-000 block of Ventura Drive in Cathedral City as the location where the threats were made.

A school resource officer identified the teen as a suspect the next day. Officers and Cathedral City deputies searched his home and found evidence of the online threats but no weapons, the sheriff said. They arrested the teen and booked him into juvenile hall.

His name was not released due to his age. The sheriff's department asked anyone with information about the threats to call Deputy Fongsamout Hohman at 760-836–1600.
