Woman dies after getting stuck in baggage claim at Chicago O'Hare

    A woman died Thursday morning at Chicago O'Hare International Airport after becoming stuck in baggage claim, officials told ABC News.

    Chicago police said the woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was 57 years old.

    According to a spokesperson for the Department of Labor, the woman was a civilian and not an airport employee.

    Emergency responders were called to Terminal 5 around 7:45 a.m. Thursday morning after reports of a woman “trapped in machinery,” the Chicago Fire Department said.

    When they arrived on scene, they found the woman “entangled in the transport system used to move luggage,” the fire department said.

    Doctors on the scene confirmed that the woman had died.

    According to police, surveillance footage from the area showed the woman “entering an uninhabited, restricted area at 2:27 a.m..”

    She was discovered around 7:30 a.m., police said, prompting emergency services to be called to the scene.

    The area has been declared a crime scene and Chicago police are investigating.
