'The Daily Show' Host Ronny Chieng Approves of Democrats' 'Strange' Attack on Republican Party: 'There's No Defense'

“The Daily Show” host Ronny Chieng had some fun with his exploration of the Democratic attack on Republicans, which seems to be working dramatically well. He rightly reminded people how strange they really are.

And Chieng approves, noting with a grin that it's really hard to defend against it, because any defense “sounds weird.” Now watch the clip below:

The clip, which played during the show's opening segment, was set up when Chieng showed a supercut of Democrats on TV explaining to people how strange Republicans are about everything from the way they engage with popular culture to the outright assault on literally everyone's civil rights enshrined in their current platform.

“Strange. What do you think of Donald Trump “Is it weird?” Chieng asked sarcastically before playing a particularly strange clip from a recent Trump rally. “I just don’t see it.”

“Calling someone weird is kind of a downgrade from, ‘He tried to overthrow democracy,’” Chieng continued. “On the other hand, you know, that message didn’t really stick. I mean, Democrats spent four years saying, ‘Hey, everybody. Remember January 6th?’ And most Americans said, ‘We don’t remember or care.’ So now Democrats are saying, ‘Hey, didn’t try to overthrow the government … kind of weird? Who does that?’”

“And now people are like, 'Yeah, I think that's a bit weird,'” Chieng added.

“The best thing about this offensive line is there's no defense against it. I mean, you can't say, 'Guys, guys, I'm not weird. That sounds weird.'”

However, Chieng advised Democrats to make clear “what kind of weird thing they mean.” “Because people might think they mean something like, cool weird, like David Bowie or Jeff Goldblum. They'll be like, 'No, no, we mean weird-weird, like the Penguin from Batman. What was it with that guy? He's like, 'Hey, I'm a bad guy, but I'm also involved in wildlife conservation in Antarctica.'

Then, “The Daily Show” took an extended look at Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance’s strange — yes, it is strange — obsession with “childless cat ladies” who he claims are secretly controlling America. It’s funny, and, as we said, you can watch it above.
