LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Eight people were hospitalized Sunday after a horse-drawn carriage crash in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania State Police said.
State Police said troopers responded to a report of a collision between a motor vehicle and a horse and buggy on Lincoln Highway East, west of Slaymaker Hill Road in Paradise Township, at 4:16 p.m. Sunday.
According to PSP, a Toyota Prius driven by 27-year-old James Walkergoutal was traveling on the Lincoln Highway when it collided with the rear of a horse-drawn carriage.
According to officers, there were eight people in the stroller, including a five-month-old baby. All eight people suffered injuries of varying severity and were transported by EMS to Lancaster General Hospital. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.
During their investigation, officers concluded that Walkergoutal was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the accident, and he was arrested.
Walkergoutal is charged with aggravated assault by vehicle (DUI), driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving and other traffic violations.
