At 5:30 p.m. Monday, it appeared that a building was on fire, but it turned out to be a barn or other structure and not a house.
The fire was first reported just after 4 p.m. Monday, with smoke visible from several vantage points in the region. Local fire departments quickly responded to the scene with at least five fire trucks working to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading, according to initial warnings. A helicopter arrived shortly before 5 p.m.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but the Lane County Sheriff's Office issued a Level 2 evacuation order for an area south of Bodenhamer and west of Green Hill.
“You should prepare to leave as soon as possible, and this may be the only message you receive,” the warning read.
In the semi-rural area, surrounded by large fields, there are several houses.
Authorities advised residents to avoid the area so emergency services could carry out their work safely.
