Maryland daycare worker arrested after allegedly recording video of her assaulting children, police say

A Maryland daycare worker was arrested after allegedly recording video of her kicking and jerking a child at an Oxon Hill center, police said.

In the video, a woman identified by police as Kayla Greenwell, 23, uses her foot to move a child. She then pulls the child’s arm, drops the child onto a mattress and then kicks the mattress causing the child to fall off.

At another point in the footage, she appears to pick up the child by their shirt and drop it onto a mattress.

The video was recorded Wednesday, the Prince George’s County Police Department said in a press release. Fox 5 DC initially reported the story after receiving a copy of the video.

“PGPD would like to thank Fox5 News for immediately forwarding the video to our Media Relations Division and delaying the broadcast of the video,” police said. “This allowed PGPD to launch the investigation and make an arrest quickly. PGPD also appreciates the community’s help in identifying the suspect.”

Greenwell, of Oxon Hill, about 50 miles from Baltimore, was charged with multiple counts of child abuse and assault, authorities said. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. The lawyer’s details were not available.

The daycare center did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday. Greenwell began working downtown in late March, police say.
