6 Threads App Settings Worth Trying

Discussions, Meta is new Twitter competitor still has that new-app smell as millions of users figure out what to post on the platform. Right now, Threads’ vibe is very “corporate after party hosted by Wendy’s”, and that’s fine! I’m not here to judge where you choose to share memes and scroll away your afternoon. Keep posting, posters. And keep lurking, lurkers. I see you.

Still, it’s worth acknowledging that Threads collects a lot of personal information about you; Meta’s other apps, such as Facebook and Instagram, collect similar amounts of data. For anyone not feeling Threads, there are plenty of alternatives to avoid this social media app.

Discussions are evolving and some of the settings you might expect in a social network may not be available yet. The app will likely change and add more features as Meta expands the team assigned to the project. (Seriously, where’s my chronological feed?) For anyone trying out Threads (Android, Apple) and getting to know the app better, here are a few valuable settings to get you started.

    Mute anyone who annoys you

The primary feed of posts is chosen by Meta’s algorithm, so you and Mute Button are about to become besties. Other feed options may become available, but here’s how to silence the brands for now. Whenever you see a message that is annoying, mute the account by tapping the three dots in the top right corner of the message, then choose Stupid. Want to go even further in beating accounts from your feed? The Block option is also presented for accounts you do not follow. For accounts you already follow but don’t want to, go to their Threads profile, tap the three dots in the top right of the profile and select Block.

    Decide who to mention

Protect your listings! You can choose whether people can post your account handle in a way that leads directly to your profile. Open your profile page on Threads and select the two lines at the top. Then tap Privacy And mentions. The app lets you choose between allowing anyone to link to your account, only people you follow, or no one at all.

    Lock those answers

Control your Threads experience even further by choosing who your replies can be. You can do this by mail. While creating a new post on Threads, tap Anyone can answer in the lower left corner. This lets you choose whether the post is open to comments from everyone, from people you follow, or just from the accounts you mention in the post.

If your Threads profile is set to private, you will see this option Your followers instead of.

    Tweak incoming notifications

Distracted by all the notifications from Threads? (We get it, you’re popular!) Resize it by going to your profile then tapping the two lines in the top right corner and notifications. Here you can customize Threads push notifications. There is an option to pause everything, or you can also manage notifications on a more granular level.

    Take a break

Boundaries are crucial and social media apps are designed to keep you scrolling for hours. Do you spend too much of your life in the Threads app? Go to your profile, tap the two lines in the top right corner. Then select account And Take a break. Here you can choose how many consecutive minutes you want to scroll through the app before Threads prompts you to do something else for a while.

The currently available break reminder options are set to 10, 20 or 30 minute intervals.

Add a link to your profile

Maybe you are an artist who wants to show off their portfolio? Or maybe you want to promote your other social media accounts? Whatever the reason, it’s easy to add a clickable link to your bio on Threads. Just go to your profile and choose Edit profile. Add the desired website to the Clutch section and tap Finished.
