A 58-year-old man who went missing in San Jose, California, died “peacefully and quickly” last weekend, according to his family.

Ching-Fu “Peter” Lan was reported missing after he was last seen in his car at 1:00 PM on May 14 in Cupertino.

“Thank you to all the friends, families, colleagues and strangers who have shown us love, care, support and assistance this week,” Kevin said in a follow-up message following his father’s passing. “My family and I will be eternally grateful to you.”

Peter married at age 25 before immigrating to the US from Taiwan and earning a master’s degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University.

Kevin made one GoFundMe on behalf of his family to pay for Peter’s funeral. The funds have reached nearly $14,000 of the $50,000 goal.

“He has suffered tremendously in the past year, but has always persevered,” Kevin wrote in the campaign description. “He never showed weakness even at the end and always told us he felt great with a smile on his face.”

The entirety of the excess money will be donated to a missing persons organization and a mental health organization, according to Kevin.
