Baldwin Park, California (AP) – One police officer was killed and another was injured after a shooting on Saturday evening in a city east of Los Angeles, the authorities said. Another person was found dead.
According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, an adult male suspect was injured but was taken into custody. He said the department leads an investigation into a double murder in Baldwin Park.
Luna and Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert López held a press conference shortly after the shooting.
“It is extremely tragic to deal with this,” said López.
The wounded officer is in good condition and he added with his family.
The police in Baldwin Park responded on a phone call around 7 p.m. from someone who shot rounds with a gun.
When the officers arrived, they were “met by rifle fire,” Luna said. At least one officer shots shot after the police came under fire.
It is unclear how many shots were fired, but the sheriff said he believed that the weapon used in the shooting was found.
The names of the victims were not released from Sunday morning. López said that the officer who was murdered was a 'great man' who loved snowboarding and traveled to see Dodger games in the United States.
